GNOC funds Beach Volleyball teams to Rio 2016 Qualifiers in Abidjan

As part of its desire to see more Gambian sportsmen and women at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is once again providing full funding for The Gambia’s men and women beach volleyball teams for the second round of the continental cup, a qualification competition for Rio Olympic Games.

The funding from the Gambia Olympic committee includes air tickets, accommodation, feeding and other logistics.

The qualifying tournament is scheduled to take place from 11 to 16 November 2015 at the Sports Complex of Treichville in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.

The Gambia is paired in Group B with Ghana, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon and host Cote d’Ivoire for men, while the women’s grouping will see Gambia face Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Congo Brazzaville and Congo DRC.

The Gambian delegation leaves Banjul International Airport on Monday 9 November for Abidjan via Dakar and returns on 17 November.

The following is a list of the delegation to Abidjan:

The male team: Sanu Secka (Gamtel/Gamcel), Alieu Barry (GAF), Babucarr Jarra (Old Jeshwang) and Malick Jammeh (Old Jeshwang).

The female team: Sainabou Tambedou (Gamtel/Gamcel), Amie Gaye (Interior), Fatoumatta Ceesay (Interior) and Abie Kujabie (GAF).

Officials: Ebrima Nyass, head coach; Yunusa Barry, volleyball president (who is also head of delegation); Muhammed L. Saidykhan, press officer, and Namory Trawally, GNOC Representative.
