Mai Ahmad Fatty, leader of Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) political party, has emphasised the importance of a constructive dialogue between the opposition and the government.

In a message addressed to the UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, who is presently on a visit in The Gambia, Mr Fatty said: “I believe that a constructive dialogue between the opposition and government on ‘essential elements’ is required, and this shall strengthen our democracy and set a strong foundation for durable peace, stability and development.”

While welcoming Mr Feltman to The Gambia, party leader Mai Fatty expressed hope that the visit of the UN Under Secretary General, “shall help in enabling much-needed traction towards comprehensive electoral reforms in The Gambia, as well as in facilitating the expansion of the democratic space.”

On behalf of GMC members and supporters both at home and around the world, I have great honour to heartily welcome your Excellency Jeffrey Feltman, UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs, to The Gambia - the Land of Hospitality.

While wishing your Excellency a memorable, successful stay in our beloved country, I hope your visit shall help in enabling much needed traction towards comprehensive electoral reforms in The Gambia, as well as in facilitating the expansion of the democratic space.

I believe that constructive dialogue between the opposition and government on ‘essential elements’ is required and this shall strengthen our democracy and set strong foundation for durable peace, stability and development.

Excellency, on behalf of GMC, please convey our highest regards to UN Secretary-General, H.E. Ban Ki-Moon.
