Ghanaian National Stabs Room mate

One Freeman Owusu, a Ghanaian national, was on the 11th of November, 2008, arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sainabou Wadda - Ceesay, of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, for stabbing his roommate, Sony Dickson, in the stomach with a knife. He pleaded guilty to the charge.

But the accused appeared to be mentally ill. Prosecutor 870 Touray had informed the court that after the incident, the accused was taken to the Psychiatric Unit at Campama.

Throughout the proceeding of the case, the accused time and again would say something sensible and would also act like a madman.

As a result, Magistrate Wadda - Ceesay ordered that the accused be sent for a medical checkup, as she could not by law try an accused person who appeared to be mentally ill.
