The organising committee of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) has conveyed appreciation to the Executive Committee of Steve Biko Football Club for their positive role in averting chaos after central referee Ansu Jatta awarded Wallidan a controversial stoppage time penalty in Week Six fixtures of the First Division League, at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium on Sunday, 14th February, 2010.
This came in the wake of a strange decision by the central referee who awarded Wallidan a last minute penalty in their match against the Bakau giant killers Steve Biko. This occasion was understood to have left four key players, including the fans of the club in frustration and dismay.
Four key members of the club, namely Buba Njie Dampha, Babucarr Jatta, Fabakary Bojang and Captain Assan Jatta subsequently faced two- match suspension each with a fine of D500 after they were reported to have attacked and insulted the man at the helm of affairs Ansu Jatta.
Despite imposing a fine on the four players amounting to D2, 000, as well as the two-match suspension, Mafugi Jatta, a member of the GFA organising committee went on to convey their appreciation to the Executive Committee of Steve Biko Football Club.
Biko went on to lose the match 2-1.
