Gambia
Chess Federation (GCF) is set to organize a national chess championship, slated
from the 27th to 29th December at the St Vincent Paul hall at West field.
Players
drawn from different clubs across the country are expected to take part in the
tournament that caps off the federations 2019 activities. Local arbiters would
coordinate the three day competition, as there would be different categories
competing in a Swiss format system.
The
Federation’s president, Amadou Jallow urged all the players to be more
proactive and prepare very well for the upcoming competition.
He
said the federation has recently been engaged in staging series of chess
programs, in a bit to uplift the phase of Chess in the country with the view of
availing players the opportunity to excel more in game.
“The
GCF has been working hard to ensure Chess as a game is propagated across the country,
and we recently conducted a tour in the regions to discuss with the
stakeholders on critical issues of the game,” he said.
The
Gambia Chess Federation urged all players to register with their respective
clubs, as no player would be allowed to take part in the tournament without a
club. There would be attractive prizes up for grapes in the different
categories competed for.
The
winner for male senior category will receive D10, 000, and the 2nd place will
get D5, 000 while third position will go with D3, 000.
In
the women and male junior categories, the winner will pocket D5, 000 as prize
and second and third position will receive D, 3,000 and D2, 000 respectively.
