GCCI crowns winners of 2014 business awards

The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has crowned Gambia’s best in business for the year 2014, at the 22nd Edition of its annual Gambia Business Awards Dinner, held on Friday at the Ocean Bay Hotel in Cape Point, Bakau.

The occasion also served as platform for awarding three winners out of eight shortlisted for the Gambia Business Plan Competition awards (BPC).

Under the Gambia Business Awards, the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award went to Amadou Ceesay of Blue Tech; the Service Provider of the Year award went to Africell Gambia Limited; Emerging Business of the Year award RLG; Business Partnership of the Year award West African Tours; Agro-processing Enterprise of the Year award Deggeh Foods International; and Sustainable Enterprise of the Year award Africell Gambia Limited.

Nominees for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award were Amadou Ceesay - Blue Tech, Haddy Faye - Absolute Entertainment, Kalipha M. Faal - KMF; for the Service Provider of the Year award were Netpage, Africell and GTBank; for Emerging Business of the Year award were RLG, Cashew Gam, and Farm Fresh; for Business Partnership of the Year award was West African Tours; for Agro-processing Enterprise of the Year award were Jawneh & Family Cashew Processing, Empass Poultry & Processing, Deggeh Foods International; and for Sustainable Enterprise of the Year award were Guaranty Trust Bank and Africell Gambia Limited.

In a similar vein, the Business Plan Competition Awards went to EverGreen Farm, who won D1,000,000, Fish Com Gambia Limited D500,000 and MBA Paper Bag Company D250,000.

The eight shortlisted under the BPC were: Mango Butter Processing (Mrs Elizabeth Carayol-Ndong),MBA Paper Bag Company (Mr Muhammed Sonko), EverGreen Farm (Mr Alhagie M. Touray), Fishcom Gambia (Ms Mansata Drammeh), My Meal Fast (Ms Duroseme Taylor), Akces Town Riders (Mr Momodou A. Secka), Rich Land Poultry (Mr Jobe), and Vegetable Selling & Processing (Mr Able Ngum).
