The Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Yusupha Gitteh to a fine of D1,000 in default to serve three months in prison for stealing 20 litres of gas oil.
According to the facts as narrated by the prosecuting officer, 1st Class Trawally, it happened on 14 May 2011, when the managing director of kharafi Company was patrolling the farm at Kafuta.
She said he met with the convicted person with 20 litres of gas oil, and asked him where he got the 20 litres of gas oil.
She said Yusupha Gitteh told the manager that he got it from a vehicle in the farm, adding that he was later taken to Mandinaba Police Station where he confessed stealing the gas oil.
In his plea of mitigation, the convicted Gitteh begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
