Gamtel rout S/Leone Armed Forces in CAF Confederation Cup

The 2013 FA Cup champions Gamtel on Saturday beat Sierra Leone Armed Forces 1-0 in the first-leg tie of the preliminary round of the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup fixtures played at the National Stadium in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Striker Assan Ceesay’s 88th minute astonishing strike has earned the telecommunication giants a vital away win over their Sierra Leonean counterparts in the first leg played at the weekend at the National Stadium in Freetown, after the first period failed to produce a goal.

Sierra Leone Armed Forces now need to beat Gamtel 2-0 in the second leg on Saturday 15 February 2014, at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium to fancy their chances of progressing to the second round of the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup.

Gamtel, on the other hand, need only a point to cement their place in the second roundof the competition after their slender victory over their Sierra Leonean opponents in the first leg in Freetown at the weekend.

It would be recalled that Gamtel have reached the second round of the CAF Confederation twice but were eliminated by As Real De Bamako of Mali in 2012 and CS Faxien of Tunisia in 2013.

The telecommunication boys also lost to FC Dyto of Togo 2-1 in WAFU Cup final in 2011.
