Gamcotrap officials' trial resumes

The criminal trial involving Dr Isatou Touray, Executive Director of the Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children (GAMCOTRAP), and Amie Sissoho-Bojang, Programme Coordinator for the same organization, is expected to resume at the Banjul Magistrates' Court today.

The trial, which commenced on 3rd November, has seen the testimonies of two women circumcisers namely, Aminata Damba, a native of Taibatu village in Wuli West district in the Upper River Region, who testified as the first prosecution witness, and Kaddy Damba, a resident of Saruja village in the Central River Region, who testified as the second witness in the trial.

The two women's rights activists are being tried before Principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea.

It was alleged that Dr Isatou Touray and Amie Bojang-Sissoho some time in 2009, in Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia, jointly stole 30,000 Euros being money provided by the YALOCAMBA SOLIDARIDAD of Spain to GAMCOTRAP.
