As part of their corporate social responsibilities, the national GSM operator last Friday presented D25, 000 to July 22nd Beauty Pageant, at a ceremony held at its headquarters in Kanifing.
Speaking at the occasion, Ms. Manyima Cham, the Marketing Manager of Gamcel underscored the importance Gamcel attaches to such sponsorship, geared towards complementing government's effort in national development. She stated that as far as Gamcel is concerned, they will keep supporting noble ventures like this, which she described as a step in the right direction.
For his part, Mustapha Ceesay, the Project Development and Research Manager expressed delight at the gesture. He said this is important because the initiative will generate money for deserving students (girls) to be sponsored to pursue higher education for nation-building. He hailed President Jammeh and the committee responsible for the initiative.
Mr. Sheikh Tijan Bah accompanied by Susan Mbaye and Mr. Amadou Bah thanked Gamcel for their sponsorship and promised to keep up the momentum. According to him, the last winner of the Second Edition of the July 22nd Beauty Pageant was sponsored by the President, to pursue a degree course in the UK. He added that currently, she is back in town, but planning to go back for her masters, thanks to the President.
He further disclosed that during the first edition, only nine people emerged winners but President Jammeh sponsored the whole 100 people.
