DW6 testifies in assault case

Sheikh Chune, the sixth accused in an assault case, on Monday testified before Principal Magistrate Foster of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court in the case involving him and others.

The other accused persons are Lamin Tunkara, Ebrima Bye, Njobo Kebbeh, Omar Sabally, Buba Singhateh, Abdoulie Dampha, Alkali Touray, Bakary Hydara and Alhagie Sanneh.

In his testimony, Chune told the court he was arrested in 2009 by the Police Intervention Unit, but could not identify those officers because it was during the night.

He further told the court they were beating him and because it was during the night he could not identify them.

He informed the court that when he was arrested, he was taken to Wellingara Police Station where his statement was recorded and he thumbprinted it.

All the accused persons were alleged to have on 29 August 2009, at Wellingara Police Station, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace and assaulted a police officer.

The case was then adjourned until 4 August 2011.
