The countries premier cellular company Gamcel and the Gambia Telecommunication Company Gamtel last Monday presented 200 bags of 50kg sugar to the Muslims in the country through the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council.
The sugar was presented at a ceremony held at Gamcel head office along Mamadi Manjang Highway in Kanifing.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, the Human Resource Manager at Gamcel, Seedy Jaiteh said "giving a helping hand to the Muslims in the country during the holy month of Ramadan is not a new thing for his company."
He said Gamcel's relationship with the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) started many years ago and since then, it has grown from strength to strength.
Jaiteh promised that they would continue to help Muslims in The Gambia, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. He pledged that Gamcel would give D30, 000 to the council for the transportation of the 200 bags of sugar across the country.
The President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, Alhagie Momodou Lamin Touray, who received the gifts called on the Muslim Ummah in The Gambia to patronise Gamcel.
Imam Touray thanked Gamcel for their annual presentation to his council, noting that GSIC will always pray for their progress.
He said Ramadan is a month of peace and blessings, forgiveness, submission to will of Allah, assisting the poor, among others.
He said people need help especially during the month of Ramadan, adding that the gesture is not a new thing to them, as Gamcel have always been with them. He assured Gamcel that the donated bags of sugar will reach its intended beneficiaries, while noting that his council will always collaborate with them in the development of the country.
Other speakers at the ceremony included Alhagie Baba Drammeh Jnr. and Snr. and Ndey Sainabou Jeng commonly known as Yai Ministerr.
The occasion was chaired by Mrs. Ramou Nyassi, Senior Marketing Managress for Gamcel, who highlighted some of the achievements registered by Gamcel over the years.
