Gambian actress honoured with GAB award

Gambian actress Fatima Jabbie has been honoured with Gathering of African’s Best (GAB) award, one of the most prestigious awards in the UK, for her contribution to promoting the positive image of Africa around the world as an actress.

“I am most grateful and I assure you that I will continue to advocate for positive image for African in films to give new face for our great continent rich with culture and mineral resource,” she told the audience at the Hilton Hotel where she received the award on 1 November this year.

Fatima said it is her duty to promote Africa to attract investors, tourists for the benefit of the continent.

“Thump up to the Gathering of African’s Best (GAB)! It is one of the most prestigious awards in the UK and I am delighted to be a winner this year. Thank you all for the love and support you shower on me all these years; I love you all more than you can imagine,” she said.

On 28 September 2013, Fatima Jabbie won the “Best Actress” award in this year’s Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA 2013) Africa’s Oscars, held at the Great Warner Theatre in Washington, USA.

A Nollywood star, Fatima Jabbie was voted the best female actress at the African Oscars in Washington District of Colombia topping the list of 32 nominees in Africa People’s Choice Best Actress category.

She recently got married to Sierra Leone’s presidential aspirant and leader of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party Julius Maada Bio.
