Gambia Women Volleyball team recently returned from Dakar, Senegal, where they took part in the 2014 FIVB World Volleyball Championship qualifiers from 18 to 21 July 2013.
In an interview with Pointsport yesterday, the head of delegation, Dembo Camara, said that despite failing to qualify for the next stage of the qualifiers the performance of the Gambian team was excellent and superb.
He said everyone thought The Gambia would qualify but they lost their chances to Guinea Conakry.
Camara stated that The Gambia finished fourth position, which prevented them from qualifying for the second round of the qualifiers.
He said further that the team trained for only five days, which resulted in their poor run of form in the qualifiers, adding that they would go back to the training ground to prepare for the next qualifiers.
He challenged the stakeholders, the parastatals and the private sector to come to their aid to uplift volleyball in the country.
Camara also commended President Jammeh through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces and the Inspector General of Police for their efforts.
