Amadou Jarju, who was awarded the best volleyball player of Dakar University Club, has said The Gambia is blessed with excellent and talented volleyball players but they are handicapped by financial constraints and lack of support.
Jarju made these remarks in an interview with Pointsport yesterday at The Point offices in Fajara.
Jarju said Senegalese players are no better than the Gambian players, but are supported and more encouraged to grow and perform well.
If The Gambia’s private sector, institutional donors and individuals could come forward and patronize the country’s volleyball association in its quest to promote and develop the discipline, they would really help Gambian volleyball players to do wonders.
Jarju says The Gambia has very good volleyball players who lack support to beef them up to deliver well at international competitions.
The Gambia needs to improve her standard of national volleyball, he said, adding that if that is achieved the country will deliver well in international competitions.
Jarju hailed Gambia Volleyball Association president Musa Cassa Taal for facilitating their trip to the Dakar University Volleyball Club where he was awarded as the best player for the club.
Jarju appeals to members of the private sector, the parastatals and institutional and individual donors to patronize Gambian Volleyball Association in their quest to promote and develop volleyball in The Gambia.
