The Gambia women U-17 will now play as scheduled in the qualifying match between The Gambia and Tunisia for the U-17 Women World Cup on Saturday 17 March 2012 at the Box Bar mini-stadium in Brikama.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), it could be recalled, delayed the Gambia versus Tunisia match in the 1st leg of the second and final round of qualifiers for the FIFA Women U-17 World Cup in Azerbaijan last week following a bend of events in Gambian football.

The match, initially billed for 9 March 2012 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, will now take place on 17 March 2012. The second leg will be played in Tunis on 30 March 2012.

A press release from the Gambia Football Association signed by media officer Bakary B. Baldeh states:

The Gambia Football Association (GFA) is pleased to inform the general public that the scheduled FIFA qualifying match between The Gambia and Tunisia for the U-17 Women World Cup initially billed for last week, will now take place on Saturday 17th March, 2012 at the Box Bar mini stadium in Brikama.

Her Excellency the Vice President Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy is the chief guest of honour on this occasion.

This will be the first of the second but final round of the qualification campaign for FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted in Azerbaijan later this year.

The Gambia have advanced from the first stage after eliminating Sierra Leone and are now poised for a place in their first-ever Women U-17 World Cup.

While wishing the female Scorpions the best of luck in the weekend qualifier, please do accept my highest sporting regards.
