Sittanunku association to hold maiden AGM on Feb 13

Jerreh Sittanunku Development Association (JSDA) is to hold its maiden annual general meeting on 13 February 2016 at Nuimi Sittanunku village, the executive has announced.

The chairperson of the association, Sanusi Darboe, said the theme of the meeting is “Mapping a way forward for the development of the village”.

The event is expected to be attended by people of Sittanunku decent in the Kombos and other parts of The Gambia who will discuss and come forward with ideas for the development of the village.

The secretary general, Lamin Jahateh, said arrangements are being made to have a session on the roles and responsibilities of Alkalo, VDC and other village associations, as part of the AGM.

He said this session is included as part of the AGM in cognizant of the fact that no significant development can take place in any village where the different local structures are not fully clear as to their different complementary roles and responsibilities.

In addition to Sittanunku, the Alkalolu and VDC members of other neighbouring villages like Aljamdou and Toubakolong are to attend this particular session, Mr Jahateh said.

The keynote address on the day is expected to be delivered by the regional governor of NBR, Lamin Queen Jammeh, who is a proud native of Sittanunku village.

The chairperson of the AGM committee, Musukebba Jammeh, said the committee is leaving no stone unturned to have a successful annual meeting.

The ad hoc committee is in charge of all the preparations of the event and it is working in tandem with its counterpart committee in Sittanunku.

There will be a fundraising as part of the AGM.On Friday, a day before the AGM proper, the association will have a show with the famous Nyako Manjang at Sittanunku school ground.Also, there will be a disco show with the top notch DJ Senator of GRTS Radio on the night of the AGM.

Ms Jammeh said the purpose of the shows is to raise money to help the association undertake development initiatives at the village.

JSDA is a non-profit, non-religious and non-partisan community-development organisation and it is legally registered at the Attorney General’s Chambers in Banjul in January 2015.The membership of the association mainly comprises people of Sittanunku village.The main body of the association is based in the Kombos but it has a subsidiary at the village, Sittanunku.

The aims and objectives of JSDA include supporting the socio-economic development of the village, and complementing the efforts of the government and the village authorities.
