Gambia U-20 return home after African U-20 Qualifiers triumph over Morocco

The Gambia National U-20 team yesterday returned home following their 2017 African U-20 Youth Championship qualifiers triumph over Morocco on Sunday in Rabat.

The Darling Scorpions beat Young Atlas Lions on penalties, after both tied on a 1-1 aggregate draw to advance to the final round of the qualifiers.

The Darling Scorpions defeated Young Atlas Lions 1-0 in the first leg clash in Banjul on 21 May 2016, before Moroccans leveled the tie in the second leg in Rabat on Sunday, but lost to the Darling Scorpions on penalties after a 1-all aggregate draw in both legs.

The Gambia will now clash with Guinea Conakry in the final round of the qualifiers after eliminating Morocco in Rabat on Sunday.

The Darling Scorpions will be rejuvenating for a convincing win over the Young Silly National in the first leg in Banjul next month to fancy their dreams of qualifying for the 2017 African U-20 Youth Championship to be hosted in Zambia next year.

The Gambia will host Guinea Conakry in the first leg in Banjul in the weekend of 8, 9 and 10 July 2016, and the return leg is slated for the weekend of 22, 23 and 24 July 2016, in Conakry. The winner will progress to the tournament proper in Zambia.

Guinea Conakry beat fellow West African side Ivory Coast to face The Gambia in the final round of the 2017 African U-20 Youth Championship qualifiers, and are hoping for a positive result against The Gambia in Banjul next month to keep their chances of securing spot in the 2017 African U-20 Youth Championshipin Zambia next year.
