The Gambia U-17 women team last weekend booked a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan following two legged wins over Tunisia.

The women side registered a lone goal victory over their Tunisian counterparts in the first leg qualifier of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier a fortnight ago in Banjul and wrapped up their campaign with a 2-1 advantage in Tunisia to make a historic record in the history of women’s football in the country.

The team, which flew from Tunisia on Saturday, is expected in Banjul Monday morning from Dakar at the ferry terminal, where football pundits and sports personalities are expected to welcome them in a grand ceremony.

Ghana and Nigeria have also sealed their places at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with convincing wins in the final round matches.

The Black Maidens of Ghana whitewashed their South African counterparts 5-1 in Accra whilst the Flamingoes of Nigeria walloped Zambia 5-0 in Abeokuta.

The two sides have so far maintained their impressive record of participating at every edition of the biennial championship since the maiden edition in 2008 in New Zealand.

The global championship will take place from 22 September to 13 October in Azerbaijan.
