Gambia-Japan Relation Is Excellent, Says Consul- General Madi

The Honorary Consul-General of Japan in the Gambia, Honorable George S.Madi has described the relationship between the two countries as very cordial and fruitful.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with this reporter recently at his office in Banjul, Consul General Madi described the relationship between Banjul and Tokyo as fruitful and beneficial to the peoples of both countries.

"The relationship has always been warm and cordial and am happy that both sides are happy about this," he stated.

According to the Japanese representative, the relationship between the two countries covers a wide range of areas, including fisheries, agriculture and food aid. He noted that, this has deeply touched on the lives of ordinary Gambians.

On fisheries, he said the Japanese government has immensely supported the construction of fish markets in coastal communities of Bakau, Tanji, Gunjur, and of recent time in Brikama.

According to him, this has in no small measure impacted on the lives of Gambians.

"The Japanese government is very attentive to the requirements of the Gambia government's needs and priorities, and am pleased to be part of this process," he stated.

He lauded the government, through its various agencies and parastatals for their help in carrying out his functions effectively and efficiently.

"Without them I wouldn't have been successful," he noted. He expressed hope that the relationship between the two countries will grow from strength to strength.

"Whatever the priorities and requests from the Gambia government we shall continue to promote and facilitate the process as soon as possible, this has been my duty," Mr. George promised.

The season diplomat also thanked the people of The Gambia for their continuous support.

Commenting on the award conferred on him by the government of Japan, Honorable Madi ascribed it to the support he received from different government departments in due execution of his duties.

He concluded by saying that the warm relationship between the Gambia and Japan will be further enhanced to grow from strength to strength.
