Gambia College Press Club visits The Point

Twenty-six members of the Gambia College Press Club yesterday paid a visit to the Point Newspaper offices, along Garba Jahumpa Road in Bakau.

Ebrima Bah, the President of the press club, said the visit was meant to have firsthand information on how the paper operates, which he noted, culminated from their impression with the paper.

Abba Gibba, Deputy Editor of The Point, who welcomed the students, assured them of the company's support to help aspiring journalists in the field.

Addressing press club members, Nfamara Jawneh, a sub-editor with the paper briefed them on the history of the Point Newspaper and the way it operates. He said that the paper is a privately-owned daily independent newspaper, which is committed to providing relevant, timely and accurate information to the public.

According to him, the paper was founded in 1991 by its current Managing Director, Mr. Pap Saine, the late Deyda Hydara and the late Baboucarr Gaye.

As of now, he said the co-publishers of the paper are Saine and Hydara.

The student journalists were later taken on a conducted tour of various facilities and departments of the paper.

Hali Omar Mendy, editorial member of the Gambia College Press Club, on behalf of the team thanked the management and staff of The Point for the good work they are doing to the community.

He further applauded them for the opportunity accorded to them.
