The Gambia American Association (GAA) of the greater Washington DC area, host of the annual African Liberation Day celebrations (ALD), is to honour one of the greatest African musicians, The Gambia’s own Musa Ngum, come May 24 through 26 as part of the ALD celebrations.

Musa Ngum, who for over forty years, through his extraordinary body of work as one of Africa’s leading musicians, helped inspire and place his beloved country, The Gambia, on the music world map.

His started music from his youthful days singing at Samba Sohos (boys initiations) in the streets of Banjul, to his days with Sangamar Band and Guelewar Jazz Band in the 1970s and later with Super Diamano of Senegal, and his impeccable work as the Cultural ambassador of The Gambia around the globe only proves his worth for this LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

The Gambian musician, by receiving this award, will join a very exclusive list of legendary GAA honorees such as the late Paps Touray (posthumously) and Momodou Biri Njie, both of whom were honoured for their extraordinary services to their great nation The Gambia.
