Gam-petroleum Clerk Gets 3-Year-Jail Term

One Kebba Touray, a clerk at Euro African Group/Gam-Petroleum, was on Wednesday 18 November 2008 convicted and sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment with hard labour by the Banjul Magistrates' Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai of Banjul Magistrates' Court.

According to the particulars of offence, the convict on or about 1st February 2008 at the Gambia Port Authority unlawfully stole 20, 339 litres of gas oil value at D406, 780 the property of the said Euro African Group/Gam-Petroleum.

In passing his judgement, Magistrate Mbai stated that the convict pleaded guilty without wasting the courts' time. However, he added that the convict stole a huge amount of gas oil for his own selfish interest.

He asserted that the accused said he had been working for the company for the past seven years without a single mistake.
