Gaddafi: African migrants must be treated with respect in Europe

Jan 27, 2011, 10:28 AM

Speaking to the participants in the first conference of the Union of African Migrants that was held in Tripoli last week, the Leader of the Revolution Muammar Gaddafi stressed that African migrants who are living in Europe and other continents must be treated with respect and not to be discriminated against.

He said African migrants have rights that should be respected by their governments and must not be treated as second or third class citizens by their Western governments.
Here are excerpts of his speech:
“We are spreading in Europe, in North America and South America. We possess manpower in North America, millions of them as citizens. We have gotten nations in Central America, full fledged nations. We also have got majorities [of populations] in millions in South America, black Africans in Latin America

From now on, they will not be able to treat us as less than humans, or as people who have no one to defend them. These are blacks and Africans; they were slaves, but not anymore…
“We want to make them understand that we exist in Europe and in America. But we did not go there as invaders like them. They took us there and enforced us to reside in the countries. This was not our [the Africans’] choice. They took Africa’s wealth to America and Europe and left the Africans in poverty…
“When huge demonstrations, destruction and violence took place in Paris two years ago… French officials said it was the act not of French people, who do not do so, but it was the act of those ‘uncivilized’ Africans…
“But the question is why do Africans do such things? Because they are oppressed. They want to express their very existence. If they treated equal as the French and other Europeans, they would not have done so. But they are treating them like slaves, second and third degree citizens and this make them call attention to their presence…
“Because you brought us to Europe against our well, then we are to be citizens here also against your will. We will enforce our conditions upon you. We have rights and we ask for compensation. We are to put things straight between us…
