Two employees of GACEM Company Limited, Ebrima Jatta and Ousainou Sarr, were on Monday 15th June 2009, brought before His Worship Magistrate Mahoney to answer a charge of stealing.

The alleged offence reads that the accused persons on 11th February 2009, at Gacem company Ltd, in the KMC, being employed by Gacem stole two (2) twenty litres of Diesel, valued at D640, being the property of Gacem Ltd.

When the chargesheet was read to them in the language they claim to understand, the first accused Ebrima Jatta, pleaded not guilty while the second accused Ousainou Sarr pleaded guilty.

Delivering his judgement on the second accused person, Ousainou Sarr who pleaded guilty, the trial Magistrate told the court that since the accused begged the court to temper justice with mercy and that he is a family man, coupled with his guilty plea without wasting court's time, the accused was therefore convicted and sentenced to a fine of D1, 000, in default to serve two months imprisonment.

He ordered the stolen property to be returned to Gacem Company.

Meanwhile, the first accused Ebrima Jatta was granted court bail in the sum of D5, 000, with one Gambian surety who must deposit his ID card with an affidavit.

Hearing continues.
