Eleven Belgium nationals of Friends of The Gambia (FOG), a Belgium-based organisation, have brought into the country a 40-foot container with materials worth over D2 million to donate to various institutions.
The container is filled to capacity with educational materials, medical items and agricultural tools.
Speaking to our reporter about the content of the container, the chairman of Friends of The Gambia (FOG), Patrick De Vos, said the school materials are for their 320 sponsored students.
“Our sponsored students are attending schools like Nyodema Nursery, Bakoteh Annex and Proper Lower Basic School, St. Therese Upper Basic School, New Jeshwang Upper Basic School - all in Region one; and Sifoe and Jambanjelly Schools in Region two,” he said.
He further revealed that the medical items will be donated to Somita and New Yundum health posts while the agricultural tools are meant for the Somita women vegetable garden project.
He said they are of the belief that the items will be beneficial to the recipients.
He thanked one Muhammed Jawo, a Gambian partner of FOG, for successfully facilitating all the arrangements in The Gambia before their arrival in the country.
FOG Director Patrick De Vos also said his delegation included a teacher, a qualified nurse and an agric expert.
“The presentation of the materials will commence at Sifoe and then to other institutions,” he said.
