Fraudster convicted

The Brikama Magistrates' Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea recently convicted and sentenced one Muhammed Ceesay to a fine of D2920 in default to serve one month, two weeks in prison.

Muhammed Ceesay pleaded guilty to the offence of obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the particulars of offence, sometime in May 2010 at Farato village, Muhammed Ceesay fraudulently obtained an amount of D1, 400 from one Sanna Bah on the pretext that his uncle would offer him a job, knowing that such representation was false.

The convict in his plea of mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy, as he is a young person.

He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D1, 500 in default to 6 weeks and also to pay a compensation of D1, 420 to the complainant within 30 days.
