At least four people died and ten others were injured in a tragic stampede at a musical concert held at Africell's head office along Kairaba Avenue on Wednesday 31st December 2008.
The incident, which took place few hours before midnight, claimed the lives of three young women and one young man who formed part of the musical gathering at the concert to mark the end of the year.
The victims namely Fatoumatta Camara, a Sierra Leonean residing at Tallinding, Mai Trawally of Latrikunda German, Fatou Chuba of Latrikunda German and Momodou Jallow of Bakau all died during the stampede.
According to latest reports gathered, six out of the ten injured during the incident were treated and discharged when they were taken to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital while three were admitted and one treated.
When contacted to shed light on the incident, the police Spokesperson, ASP Sulayman Secka, said the circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known but that the police were looking into the matter.
According to ASP Secka, a six-member panel instituted by the Inspector General of Police is currently working on the issue. "We are currently looking at the nitty-gritty of the incident in order to establish the cause of these deaths," he summed up.
