The
economic crime trial involving former coordinator of the West Africa
Agriculture Production Productivity (WAAPP), Sheikh Tijan Sosseh, was recently adjourned
before Justice Emmanuel Ahmadi of the Special Criminal Court.
When the case was announced, the DPP informed the court that the counsel handling the matter was not in court and had a vehicle predicament but was on his way to the court.
He then applied for a stand down, but the trial judge asked how could the DPP come to the court and asked the court to wait for a state counsel.
This application was also opposed by the defence team, but the DPP’s application was later granted.
When the state counsel handling the matter came, he also told the court the same thing.
The judge said he would fine the state counsel to pay D2,000 for wasting the court’s time.
The case was then adjourned till 19 April 2014.
