Gibril Bojang, the former State Guard Commander, was yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates' Court.
However, the charge sheet was not read in court, but when contacted the Police Public Relation Officer, Superintendent Sulayman Secka, revealed that Mr. Bojang is charged with theft.
When asked by the presiding magistrate, Emmanuel Nkea, whether he would be representing himself, Mr. Bojang replied in the negative, stating that he would want to hire the services of a lawyer.
Meanwhile, the accused was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to Friday 6th November 2009.
It could be recalled that Gibril Bojang was recently demoted from the rank of Lt. Colonel to Private and dismissed from the Army.
