Former NDEA director of operations cross-examined

Ousman Sanneh, former director of operations at the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA), was yesterday cross-examined at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul before Justice Emmanuel Nkea.

Ousman Sanneh told the court that he testified against one Saikouba Jammeh at the Banjul Narcotics Court as a prosecution witness, in the case of stealing a prohibited drug from the exhibits store.

According to him, he did not know the outcome of the case, because he was in custody, but he was made to understand that the accused persons were discharged.

He said during the meeting at the office of the 2nd accused person, Karamo Bojang, Ousman Jatta denied saying that his source of drugs was Karamo Bojang.

He admitted under cross-examination that he was the director of operations at the NDEA, and that all the operational commanders report to him.

He added that he knew Kalifa Badjie, who was apprehended with 7kg of suspected cannabis at Sifoe and a plea bargain was done at the NDEA headquarters.

The case continues today.

Ibrahim Bun Sanneh, former NDEA Executive Director, Karamo Bojang, former Deputy Chief of the Agency, Ousman Sanneh, former Commissioner of Operations of the Agency, Seedou Bojang, the Agency’s accountant, and one Marie Sanneh, were indicted by state prosecutors under a 30-count charge.

The alleged offences include conspiracy to commit a felony, stealing by person in public service, aiding and abetting, unlawful possession of fire arm, unlawful possession of live ammunitions, concealment and destroying of evidence, official corruption, abuse of office, obtaining money by false pretence, making document without authority, among others.
