Former GPA cashier economic crime case continues

The economic crime case involving a former cashier of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), Jahou Jammeh, continued yesterday at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul with the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness.

Jahou Jammeh was accused of stealing over D6 million from the GPA, while its employee.

Abdoulie Comma under cross-examination told the court that the initial investigation revealed that there was a loss of D1.3 million.

Comma stated under cross-examination that he has no professional qualification in auditing, and had just started his ACCA; that he is not a trained auditor for that matter, but has experience, as he had worked with various companies.

He said his appointment was in writing, and he would not know whether there was an ongoing audit training program at the GPA.

The witness further told the court that he suffered from wrongful dismissal at the Banjul City Council, but lost the case in court, adding that in preparing exhibit A, he made reference to the data which is in the custody of one Anta Jallow.

He also said he knew the procedure to apply in filling a shipping form and a delivery note order, adding that he did not see the entries in the store.

The case continues on 19 March 2012.
