Former FAO boss visits The Gambia today

The former Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations is expected in the country today for a three-day visit.

According to a press release issued by the FAO country office, Dr Jacques Diouf will pay a courtesy call on President Yahya Jammeh to bid him farewell before the end of his tenure in Office with the FAO.

The release stated that Dr Diouf will arrive onboard Arik Airline later today and will depart onboard Senegal Airline on January 6th.

Meanwhile, reports monitored by this paper confirmed that Dr Jacques Diouf ended his third term on 31 December 2011.

The newly elected Director-General of the FAO, José Graziano da Silva, assumed office on 1 January 2012 for a term which expires on 31 July 2015.

Jacques Diouf, a national of Senegal, served as FAO Director-General for three six-year terms, from January 1994 to December 2011.
