The accident, which happened in Tanene village in the Kombo East district of the West Coast Region, claimed the lives of four women and one man, all said to be from the same village.
The victims namely, Jawaranding Jawara, Kaddy Fadera, Bara Jawara, Fatou Jawara, all women and Kebbalang Fadera, the only man, were on their way to the Kombos when the vehicle got a bust tyre, leading to their death.
According to police sources, the victims were given a lift by the driver of the vehicle, one Assan Ndure, who was returning from Soma in the Lower River Region.
The driver was said to have been slightly wounded and later treated and discharged. He is currently said to be in police custody helping in their investigations.
It would be recalled that, earlier in April, another fatal car accident along the Senegambia Highway claimed the lives of four people.
That accident, which involved two vehicles and a motorbike, left three people dead on the spot, while another person was later pronounced dead at a nearby clinic.
