First Youth and Sports Summer Camp

Sep 7, 2012, 11:25 AM

The recently organised first edition of Youth and Sports Camp organised by the Directorate of Youth and Sports and the satellite institutions of the Ministry of Youth and Sports was reportedly a success.

We would, therefore, seize the opportunity to commend the organisers of the event for keeping these young people in a camp for ten good days.

Our commendation also goes to the regional authorities and parents of the children for contributing to the success of the summer camp.

We learned that the camp was part of the Ministry’s quest to attain excellence in youth and sports development through mass participation and leadership training, as well as to create a platform for children and youths to develop their skills and potentials to the fullest.

We encourage the ministry to make the event an annual one as it will promote grassroots sports and promote understanding among young people.

Through events of this nature, we would be able to spot talents among our young ones, and if possible nurture them to help them achieve their dreams in sports.

We encourage the kids to live by the knowledge and skills acquired from their ten-day stay in Banjul.

Similarly, we salute the school children through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, for donating over thirty thousand dalasi  as their contribution in support of the Female U-17 Azerbaijan trip.

The gesture is very encouraging, and shows the commitment of these young people to the development of Gambian sports.

We would, therefore, encourage all Gambians at home and abroad to support the girls to enable them perform well in Azerbaijan.
