Fire consumes rice fields

Information reaching this office revealed that fire has consumed several rice fields in the village of Banni, Central River Region.

Those affected include Fanta Manneh, 65, whose 4 plots of rice fields were reportedly consumed by the inferno, 85-year-old Mama Nyockeh - 2 plots of rice fields and Mariama Nyockeh, aged, 45, lost over 1.5 hectres of rice. 

The victim, Fanta Manneh said the incident happened on a Sunday when they went to the Church.

According to her, they normally don't go to the rice fields on Sundays, and as a result the incident was not discovered until the following day. This, she said, is not the first time as, according to her, it had happened in 2007.

"We are not the only community, but it is only happening to us," she concluded.
