Mrs
Fatim Badjie, Vice Chairperson of Board of Director of Young People in the
Media (YPM), has called on girls to acquire life skills that could help them in
the future.
She
was addressing girls during the recently-ended all-girls conference organised
by YPM in collaboration with the Girls Generation (TGG) held at the Paradise Suites
Hotel.
The
objective of the All Girls Conference was to bring duty bearers within
communities from all over the country and young girls for them to dialogue on
the progress made regarding the law on gender-based violence in relation to
girls and women.
It
was also to look at the progress made on banning FGM, changes it has brought in
the mindsets of young girls, community leaders, parents, survivors and
stakeholders.
The
theme of the conference was “Ending all forms of GBV and empowering girls to take
the lead in nation building.”
Fatim
Badjie urged young girls to be assertive and follow their career pattern to
excel and succeed in life as they are living in an ever changing world.
Young
girls need to acquire good life skills that would help them in the future, she
said, adding that young girls are mostly exposed to certain uncomfortable
situations which could be disturbing.
“They
need to be empowered and be in charge of their own destiny and be conscious of
their self-worth.”
She
commended the YPM team for a well-organised all girls’ conference and assured
the young girls of her personal support and that of her organisation.
