Fans shouldn’t expect much from me if… says Zico

Gambian international striker Momodou Ceesay was honest enough to speak his mind saying Gambian fans should not expect much from him if the team does not play well against the Elephants of Ivory Coast on Saturday.

This is because they all play as a team and if the team does not perform well there is nothing he could do alone, he added.

Zico, who plies his trade with Kazakhstan club Kairat Almaty, added: “If I do well it is because the team is doing well. Let the fans come and watch and see; whatever they get from the game that’s it.

“I will play good football, it is 90 minutes; we will do what we can in the 90 minutes. The reality in everything is we are not up to the standard of Ivory Coast.

“We can all see what they have - we don’t have anything like that; their players, the condition and all those stuffs.

“You cannot compare us with Ivory Coast, for now. Maybe if luck is on our side yes we can win.”

Lamin Samateh, in his remarks, said they are fully prepared for the game and hope to achieve something at the end of the day.

The Croatia-based defender added that the game will not be easy because Ivory Coast have a good side with big-name players but no matter what, they were able to play against them in Abidjan and contained them for the first 45 minutes.

Basman, as he is widely called, recalled they conceded three goals in the second period due to lack of concentration but that it is not yet over as they are wait for the Elephants of Ivory Coast here at home.

“We will win for sure because we have the quality to do it,” he said while calling on fans to come out and support the team on Saturday.

Abdoulie Mansally, in his comments, said they all know the importance of the game and will go all out for victory come Saturday.

“We are 100 per cent ready for the game,” he said, adding that they went to Ivory Coast and things went the way they didn’t want; nevertheless this is a home game and all they need is the maximum three points.
