Blackpool Gambia School project, a British Rotary Club has sponsored a massive refurbishment exercise at Bakoteh Proper Lower Basic School with the painting of ten classroom blocks.
Mr. Gary Pretty, a British national and member of the charity told our reporter in an interview that the funds for the painting was raised by a Rotary Club in the United Kingdom, called Blackpool Palatine. He added that the Rotary Club is sponsoring 30 students within KMC area from nursery to senior secondary level.
He said they started the partnership with Gambian schools since 2006, describing their school's partnership as very cordial. Gary revealed that since their partnership with schools in The Gambia, they donated educational materials to their sponsored students and organised beach party for them. He said last year they painted a classroom block at the school. This, he added, is why this year when they came to The Gambia they decided to take up as their duty to paint ten classroom blocks for the school.
"We are not only painting but also drawing some learning materials on the walls where students will learn some new words," Mr. Gary Pretty said.
The Headmistress of Bakoteh Proper Lower Basic School, Mrs. Fatou FB Chow thanked the members of Blackpool Palatine Rotary Club in the UK through Mr. and Mrs. Pretty for the assistance they are rendering to her school. She expressed her profound gratitude to Mr. Pretty for the help.
She finally called on her teachers to make the best use of the teaching and learning materials given to them.
