Brikama gets new High Court No. 2

A High Court No.2 and Cadi were officially opened on Thursday 4th February 2010, at Brikama in Western Region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chief Justice of the Gambia Emmanuel Agim told the august gathering that the Gambia Bar Association is part of the government initiative to further its objective by ensuring that justice is delivered to the doorsteps of people.

He noted that people have been travelling from long distance to attend court cases, adding that there are too many court cases that are not registered in court list, because of over-crowding of pending cases.

"This is one main reason why we decided to open other courts in Brikama," he said.

Also, speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Lamin Touray, of the Ministry of Justice, who spoke on behalf of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, said The Gambia government has a vision, noting that one of its priorities is justice delivery system.

According to Mr. Touray, to build a Cadi court of this nature is not a waste of time. He also advised the people of Western Region to take care of the courts.

For his part, the President of the Gambia Bar Association Mr. Sheriff Tambedou said it is very important for the government's effort to be decentralised.

Mr. Tambedou said his association is appreciative of the opening of High Court No. 2 and

Cadi Court
in Brikama.

The Governor of Western Region, Lamin Sanneh said the opening of High Court No. 2 and

Cadi Court
came at a right time when they are badly needed.
