Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lamin AMS Jobarteh, yesterday appeared at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul before Justice Emmanuel Nkea.
When Lamin Jobarteh entered the docked, the judge said the matter was for the state to file the bill of indictment.
The state counsel then applied for an adjournment on the grounds that they lately received the case diary from the NIA, and needed time to file a proper charge.
In response, defence counsel L.S. Camara stated, among other things, that the court order should be complied with, considering the predicament and the condition of his client.
He pointed out that his client was granted bail, and had fulfilled all the conditions imposed on him, but was still being detained, adding that there were no fresh charges pressed against him anywhere.
The case was subsequently adjourned to 24 July 2013, for the state to file the indictment.
It would be recalled that Lamin Jobarteh was earlier arraigned alongside Pa Harry Jammeh at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court under a 10-count charge, which included conspiracy to defeat justice, abuse of office, official corruption, destroying evidence, and neglect of official duty, charges they had since denied.
Lamin Jobarteh was alone also arraigned on two counts of economic crime, which he had also denied.
Jobarteh also faces another charge of abuse of office and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, alongside Dr. Njogu Bah and Pa Harry Jammeh, at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
