Ex-finance minister Dominic Mendy has revealed that football contributes immensely to the gross domestic product of a nation.

Mr Mendy made these remarks at the recent national football consultative forum held at the Independence Stadium’s Friendship Hostel in Bakau.

Mr. Mendy pointed out that football can improve a country’s balance of payment, adding that the consultative forum would aid in development and improvement of Gambian football and improve the life of the nation.

Mr Mendy further stated that the forum would have come up with a five-year development football strategy, which would help the teams to realize income and improve the standard of the Gambia league.

According to Mr Mendy, football is an industry that can improve the economy and the lives of people in the country, adding that when the strategy is accomplished the stakeholders will again assemble a similar forum to see whether the strategy is suitable.

Mr Mendy hailed the stakeholders for attending the forum to achieve excellence in Gambian football, which can contribute to GDP of the country as well as improve the lives of the people.

He also applauded the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council for organising the National Football forum meant to improve and develop Gambian football in a bid to participate in international competitions.
