One Bubacarr Darboe, an ex-convict, was recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing.
The particulars of offence stated that on 23 August 2012, at New Yundum, the accused, Babucarr Darboe, entered into a dwelling house of one Kebba Sanna Jatta and stole the following items: Alcatel mobile phone valued at D1,000 and a bag containing official documents of a value unknown. He denied the charge.
The prosecuting officer, CPL 2259 Ceesay, told the court the prosecution was objecting to bail for the accused person.
He said the accused was currently standing two trials before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court and was earlier convicted by the same court for similar offence.
CPL 2259 Ceesay added that the accused was a habitual offender and if granted bail, he might go and commit another offence.
However, Magistrate Abeke stated that the offence was bailable and he consequently granted the accused person bail of D500,000 with two Gambian sureties with landed property within the jurisdiction.
Hearing was adjourned till 10 January 2013.
