Defence witness four, Bakary Jarju, recently testified before Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.
Mr Jarju was charged alongside Buba Sarr, Foday Ebrima Keita, Ousman Saidy, Momodou Alimu Bah and Bakary Sarjo for obtaining money by false pretence, a charge they have all denied.
Testifying, Bakary Jarju told the court he knows his co-accused, and their function was to monitor the prices of commodities.
He adduced that they monitor prices by enquiring from shops and vendors what their prices for commodities are.
"After monitoring the prices, we go to report the matter to the Serrekunda CID office," the witness told the court.
DW4 further narrated that they discussed among themselves in their office at Serrekunda Market before reporting to the CID.
"We do call sellers to our office to advise them," DW4 told the court, adding that those who adhere to their advice are taken to the CID office.
He denied claims of receiving money from anyone in order to pardon them, adding that he never arrested people for not taking part in the monthly cleansing exercise.
He also denied going around intimidating business people.
The trial was then adjourned until 17 March 2011.
