Hands together for The Gambia foundation in Holland over the weekend donated a container full of materials to the community of LatriyaVillage in Kombo North District. The donation was supported by Mr. Henk and Herbert Damen Dutch nationals and also members of Hands together for The Gambia.
The container, which contained cartons of second hand clothes, furniture, medicaments, football equipment and baby toys was meant to boost Latriya Health post and improve football at a grass roots level.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, a member of the foundation, Madam Trees Heebing, revealed that the container is sponsored by three companies in Holland namely Mach metal, Denkers and Bosman who also facilitated the shipping and transportation of the container to The Gambia. She added that the foundation (Hands together for The Gambia) is also partnering with the Snoopy Foundation in Holland who are also contributing immensely towards the development of Latriya village.
She then seized the opportunity to thank and commended their partners in Holland for their gesture.
For his part, the chairman of the foundation Herbert Damen urged the people of Latriya to make best use of the donated items, adding that the items are worth over D70, 000.
In receiving the items, the Alkalo of Latriya, Burama Darboe, expressed delight and appreciation for the donated materials, adding that the gesture will go a long way in the helping the community of Latriya to reduce some of their burdens. He then thanked and welcomed the guests to The Gambia.
Mr. Alassan Jah, the project co-ordinator, also thanked the Snoopy Company for their gesture while assuring them that the donated materials will be put to good use.
In another related development the Snoopy Foundation also presented cars through the Amsterdam challenge to be auctioned. The proceeds will be invested in the foundation Hands Together for The Gambia.
