A driver was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D2,000 in default to serve nine months in prison by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over Magistrate Edward Singhateh.
Alagie Secka was found guilty on charges of careless driving and driving a motor vehicle that did not meet the legal requirement.
The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, Inspector Touray, stated that on 13 May 2011, the convict, Alagie Secka, was driving a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 9795D, a truck at Sinchu Alagie road.
He said there was another vehicle with registration number BJL 4768F driven by one Babucarr Jaiteh.
Inspector Touray further narrated that the convicted person suddenly joined the highway; as a result he collided with the complainant’s vehicle which was carrying some passengers at the time.
Some passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Banjulinding Health Centre, he said, adding that one was treated and discharged whilst two were referred to the RVTH.
When both vehicles were tested, he explained, it was found that the convict’s vehicle did not meet the legal requirement.
