Dr Henry D.R. Carrol, a Human Rights Lawyer, Chairman of the Law Reform Commission and a Law Lecturer of the Faculty of Law of the University of The Gambia, on Friday left the country for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Dr Carrol has been invited by the University of Bristol, School of Law (U.K.), to represent The Republic of The Gambia, at an International Experts Human Rights Conference, to be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, slated to take place on 21 and 22 November 2011.

“This International Experts Human Rights Conference has as its main term of reference, ‘National Implementation Human Rights Mechanisms’.”

This goodwill invitation from the University of Bristol, School of Law (U.K.), to Dr Henry D.R. Carrol, indeed has a strong connection, with the academic, that Dr Carrol is a Founder Law Lecturer of The Faculty of Law, of the University of The Gambia (UTG).

The UTG is indeed a Commonwealth university, like the University of Bristol, UK, and both of these citadels of learning, are bona-fide members of The Commonwealth Universities Association, whose headquarters is situated in the U.K.

Apart from members of the academia, human rights lawyers, diplomats, human rights activists, senior police officers with human rights experience and qualifications have also been invited to attend this International Experts Human Rights Conference, which is fully funded by the University of Bristol, School of Law, U.K.

Commissioner Landing Kinteh of The Gambia Police Force, Mr Sheikh Lewis, a renowned human rights activist, Mrs Isatou Graham, a human rights lawyer and the curator at the Ministry of Justice, are all part of the high-powered Gambian delegation to this International Experts Human Rights Conference.

Dr Carrol, as usual, is expected to ably represent The Gambia at this International Human Rights forum, and has also promised to keep the Gambian flag flying high.
