The
Wanderers Development Association is committed to youth development and
community enhancement through sport.
The
Wanderers Development Association directs, operates and sponsors the Wanderers
Friendship Cup for the past 5 years, a youth soccer tournament.
The
football tournament, in partnership with West Coast Region Football Academies
Association and Gambia Senior Secondary Schools Sports Committee (LOC), hosted
double finals at the Brikama Mini Stadium (Box bar) on Saturday 13 May 2017.
Fredericton
Wanderers of Youna defeated Touray’s Academy of Brikama (1 -0) for the
Academies Category.
Whilst
in the schools category for girls, Mahaad Senior Secondary School defeated
Mingdaw Senior Secondary School 4 - 3 on penalties after a goalless draw in the
regulation period.
The
Winners in the academies category, and the Fredericton Youna went home with giant
trophy, set of jerseys, medals, while the runners-up, Touray’s Academy of
Brikama also went home with a set of jerseys.
In
the schools girl’s category, Mahaad Senior Secondary School went home with cash
prize of three thousand dalasis (D3,000.00) with a trophy and the runners-up
Mingdaw Senior Secondary School went home with two thousand dalasis (D2000.00).
The
dignitaries in attendance were the president and 1st vice president of West
Coast Region Football Association (Abdou Karim Sey and Bakary Bojang), the
Women Football coordinator for GFF Sainey Sissokho, grassroots manager of GFF
Alagie Nyassi, president of Brikama Sports Committee, Karalang Jatta, West
Coast Regional Coach, Ensa Sambou, and sports journals.
The
coordinator of Wanderers Friendship Cup Jerreh Manneh and the president of West
Coast Region Football Academies Association all thanked the sponsors Wanderers
Development Group of Canada for the support.
