The Din Ding Bantaba Federation (DDBF), a community-based organisation, has distributed 100 packets of corrugated iron sheets among 34 families.

The beneficiary families were “seriously affected” by windstorm during the 2015 raining season.

The items were presented to the families at a ceremony recently held at the organisation’s based in Sibanor village, West Coast Region.

Ebou Sowe of DDBF said the federation is working for the welfare of Gambian children and their communities in order to help them live better lives.

“In helping the deprived and excluded children, we engage in a host of programmes and activities meant to uplift the welfare and standards of children and their families within and beyond the operational cycle of DDBF,” he explained.

DDBF is involved in education, health, environment and other programmes.

“We feel that all these areas are connected to the well-being and development of our sponsored children and their families within the districts,” Mr Sowe said.

One of the recent major interventions of DDBF was the handing over of well-built and fully furnished early childhood development centre to the government. The centre was fully financed by DDBF, thanks to the support of its major donor, ChildFund The Gambia.

Samba Keita, programme development officer for DDBF, said disasters are inevitable and the federation collaborates with the National Disaster Management Agency to obtain correct and adequate data on the affected families for interventions.

From the data collected, DDBF was able to mobilise some funding from WEC International, an NGO based in Sibanor, to provide support to the disaster affected families by helping to provide a better shelter for families of sponsored children.

Mr Keita said the federation, in collaboration with WEC International and ChildFund, has helped in rebuilding the family shelters of their sponsored children.

Saihou Sanyang, representative of the DDBF board chairperson, urged the beneficiary families to use the materials for its purpose saying DDBF will monitor to ensure that materials are fully utilised.

Lalo Badjie, on behalf of the beneficiaries, hailed DDBF and its partners for the timely intervention and assured of the proper utilisation of the materials.
