Detective 5029 Mao Ceesay recently testified in the trial involving Almami Ceesay, Gibril Jatta, Maimuna Touray and Lamin Jallow, accused of stealing by clerk or servant and conspiracy to commit a felony, before Magistrate Gomez of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Detective Ceesay told the court that he is attached to Kotu Police Station under the CID unit, and that he could recognise the accused persons.

He recalled that on 18 November 2014, he was on duty when he received a case file of stealing by clerk or servant at the charge office, involving the accused persons.

He was then instructed by his senior officer to take a cautionary statement of the 2nd accused, Gibril Jatta, which he did.

According to Ceesay, the accused thumb-printed the said statement.

He said the accused narrated to him that after closing from work, he started preparing the duty roster when one of his bosses, Amba Barry, approached him and asked whether there were no new visitors who came for breakfast, and he said he did not know.

He said the accused further narrated that he was again asked by his boss whether he took money from the said visitors, and he said he did not take any money, and his boss then let him go.

The case was adjourned to 21 September 2015.
